Children really do love trains! Blame it on the Thomas factor, but there is nothing more thrilling than riding on a fabulous old steam engine with the noise of the tracks as the beautiful countryside goes whizzing by. We are so lucky in Britain to have so many old railway lines still operational, many with their original locomotives and stations, evoking a time gone by. And for those days in summer that are a little overcast, there are plenty of treasures to be found in Railway and Tramway Museums with exhibitions, lots of vehicles and carriages, rides and endless things to see and do. Severn Valley Railway
The Severn Valley Railway operates mainly steam-hauled passenger trains between Kidderminster, Bewdley & Bridgnorth, a 16 mile journey along the beautiful Severn Valley. There is no better way to see the lovely River Severn than from one of the ‘standard gauge’, full size trains. Now that the long summer days are with us, treat the family to an exciting day out in the heart of the countryside. The Northampton & Lamport Railway is a steam and heritage diesel operated tourist railway located in the Northamptonshire countryside just 5 miles from Northampton, within easy reach of the motorway network. The railway is approximately 1½ miles long, and a round trip takes around 25 minutes and is a fabulous day out for all the family. |
