Horrible Science at the Theatre in Winchester Hampshire

I loved going to see the production of Horrible Science. The performance of Horrible Science was fun and joyful for all ages and had fantastic images like they where really walking round the Horrible Science Fun Centre. Then there was the main character called Billy Miller. He was funny, enthusiastic and entertained every one. Not forgetting the scientists that helped him along the way and taught him all about science stuff like blood, bones and body parts, shocking electricity, frightful forces and miniature monsters. Another cool thing was when we had to put boggle goggles on (which where actually 3d glasses) and go into a bathroom and look at 3d tap dancing germs and 3d poo! Overall this was a fantastic show and I loved it.                                       Thomas Russill Aged 9. Thanks  Thomas!

Beaulieu in Hampshire

Sue and family from Pembrokeshire in Wales visited Beaulieu whilst staying with friends in Hampshire over the New Year holiday and sent us this report:

We had a great day, I don't know why I was surprised but it was all so much better that I had expected. There is something for everyone at Beaulieu and I really mean it. A family of grandparents, parents and young children visiting on New Year's day all had equal measures of enjoyment.  The National Motor Museum has over 250 wonderful motor vehicles to marvel at and Grandpa was visibly excited to find the No. 51 red double decker bus on which he used to travel to school.  The 'Wheels' ride gives you a seat in a pod which swivels you through the history of how cars became an essential part of our lives and delightful dioramas bring it all to life. Everyone loved that!  A suitable warming lunch was taken in the Brabazon restaurant which is open throughout the day.  The Monorail and Veteran Bus were waiting to take us to the other delights of Beaulieu - the Gardens, Palace House, Beaulieu Abbey, mini cars and a play trail and a fascinating exhibition telling the wartime story of the Special Operations Executive based in Beaulieu.  We also enjoyed the James Bond exhibition and particularly the World of Top Gear.  Here you can watch a 'special to Beaulieu' film where the 3 'boys' tell stories behind their mad challenges, watch clips of the best Top Gear moments and then see some of the actual cars used in them. Great fun!  Yes, we were all impressed with the diversity here and would recommend a visit any day for kids of all ages.

Imperial War Museum, London

Tom  went to the Imperial War Museum in London with his children. They had a fantastic visit during which Tom saw the website below being advertised and would like to share this great activity with other parents and their children: http://www.whatliesbeneath.org.uk/ "When we got back we went online to investigate. It’s a site that acts as an online exhibition of sorts, looking at the cold war. Clearly it is aimed at slightly older children but my eldest boy (who is 12) absolutely loved it (probably something to do with the fact that he wants to be James Bond!). I thought it was an excellent way to finish the trip, but I think it could even be a good stand alone activity. It’s fun and interactive and they can learn a bit at the same time which is always a bonus. I'd like to help spread the word a bit so as other parents and their children can get as much enjoyment out of it as we did, so it would great if you could post it. Thanks, and keep up the good work, your site is great!"

Here is some feedback from some of the Winners of our competitions.

Cinderella at Dickens World, Chatham

Dear Lets Go with the Children,  We were one of the winners of tickets to see Cinderella at Dickens World, Chatham and wanted to give you some feedback. Dickens World seemed rather a strange place to hold a panto but the set up couldn’t have been better for children.  No formal seating, instead large tables with chairs around, lots of space and freedom to move around (even during the performance!).  In fact, one little girl even became incorporated into the storyline as she spent most of her time trying to get onto the stage! The characters were loosely based on the original story and were extremely child friendly, making sure that all the kids were happy and included throughout and even posing for photos and there for a chat at the end of the performance.  Our 1 year old had great fun dancing and jumping and the informality meant that weary parents could relax a little. Perhaps not an event to attend without the kids, but definitely one to take them to without a worry! Thank you for the opportunity to experience it. M Masters

Young Vic, London

 L. Blaney won a family ticket to see The Forest at Young Vic, London:

I just wanted to email to let you know that I took my son and nephew to see The Forest with the tickets we won from your competition.  My son is 11 and my nephew is a young 8, and they both really enjoyed it.  They were probably the oldest children there, but when the performance started they were as absorbed as all the other kids.
The stage was in the middle, with the audience arranged down the two long sides of the stage.  The play is basically three performers who discover a forest then spend time playing in it, hiding from each other and exploring everything about the forest.  This includes the structure of the forest, climbing the trees, looking for birds, collecting leaves and also using the trees to move themselves around. This movement aspect was the piece that particularly interested my son as, at the end of the performance, he spent a few minutes trying to slide across the floor from tree to tree, just as he'd seen the actors do.  The performance included very little dialogue, with some music and the various noises of the forest providing the soundtrack.  At the end of the performance, the three actors all threw a handful of conkers on to the stage, which made a clatter.  This was then eclipsed by the literally hundreds of conkers which fell from the "sky" - delighting the entire audience, adults and children alike.  And at the end, the children even helped to collect up the conkers!  Thanks again, we all really enjoyed it.

Ascot racecourse, Berkshire

T. Benbrooke – won a family ticket to United House Day: We had a great time at Ascot last weekend. The weather stayed fine and our nine year old daughter Lydia, who is learning to ride at the local horse riding centre, enjoyed seeing these superb horses close up in the parade ring. P.s I also backed a couple of winners and walked away in profit!

Hop Farm, Kent

M. Bryan – won a family ticket:  Just wanted to let you know about my competition prize outing to Santa's Magical Kingdom at Hop Farm. Well to start with MASSIVE thanks once again for the fantastic opportunity that you gave us. I couldn't believe I had won such a fantastic prize! As I said to you on the phone I had seen this advertised and really wanted to go but could not afford to having recently lost my job. So to have won the tickets was just such a wonderful early Christmas present! I went with my sister, nephew (who is 5) and my 1 year old daughter, and we really did have a fantastic time! The whole experience was just such a magical place! I really wish you could have seen my nephews face as we got off the little train ride to be met by Father Christmas himself! He was literally speechless! Even my little girl was taken with the whole thing! The elves were so friendly, welcoming and everything you would want them to be; stopping to chat to the children and posing for photos any time we asked them to. They really helped to make the whole thing a really magical and special place for the children! We had everything from magic tricks, balloon animals, decorating pictures and sending letters to Santa up the chimney! We all enjoyed ourselves so much that i am going to start saving now ready for next year so we can take the whole family! There was only one disappointment to the day and that was the fact that because we were on a late afternoon tour it meant that the fair, markets, food court and shops were all closed when we came out of the last part of the tour! But never mind, just means that I will have to go back next year! As I said I really can't thank you enough you made our Christmas and my nephew is still telling everyone about his brilliant trip to see Father Christmas.

Nuffield Theatre, Southampton

Mrs A. Allen – won a family ticket to see Wind in the Willows: Thank you very much for the Wind in the Willows tickets. We had a fantastic evening and the children really enjoyed it. It’s something we have never done before and definitely would again. Thank you again.
