An unforgettable spectacle. The kites are fed daily, at 3pm in summer and 2pm in winter. Off cuts of beef are scattered out onto the grassy feeding area on the lakeside. The red kites swoop down to pick up a piece of meat and eat on the wing. The kites can be seen very well from the lakeside along the Barcud Trail or there is a bird hide overlooking the feeding area. Discover what life was like on the Chatsworth Estate, for the Devonshire family and for estate workers during the First and Second World Wars. This exhibition in the New Gallery marks the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War and the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War. Both estate workers and the Cavendish family and relations fought on the front line from the Somme to Gallipoli. Explore life on the home front during the First World War, the impact of the war effort on the estate and the contribution made by women. During the Second World War, Chatsworth housed a girl's boarding school, Penrhos College. The State Drawing room will be returned to its appearance as a dormitory, complete with beds and the original wardrobe, stored at Chatsworth since the girls moved out in March 1946.

Every Wednesday and Saturday until 1st November, a steam train trip runs from Bishops Lydeard to Dunster station for a coach link to the 1,000-year-old castle. Families can experience how rubber tappers in Brazil tap the trees to collect the liquid latex and take it to their processing huts, where the latex is turned into wild rubber. There are games along the way for children, to take a look at some of the products that come from liquid latex and see what a skillful job it is to tap rubber from the trees.

Thomas and Elizabeth Merry lived at Blakesley Hall from 1901 to 1932 and their three children, Tom, Frank and May, all played important yet different roles in WW1. Through photographs, medals and letters from the family’s archive, visitors to Blakesley Hall can discover the true effect of the war on one family. There is a short film commissioned as part of the exhibition and an interactive trench for younger visitors. The exhibition has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and is linked to the Imperial War Museum led Centenary of the First World War. Please confirm opening times before travelling.

13 April 2014 - 18 February 2015 - HORSE TRAIL AROUND BATH
According to the Chinese zodiac, from the 31st January 2014 to 18th February 2015 is the Year of the Horse. With this trail, visitors can find horses in art at six different collections around Bath, including Roman Baths, Victoria Art Gallery, Holburne, BRLSI, the American Museum and the Museum of East Asian Art. This trail will be launched on 13th of April, Bath World Heritage Day, and it will be available till February 2015 at all six museums.

Explore this woodland trail depicting scenes from the Room on the Broom storybook painstakingly carved by chainsaw artists using locally sourced redwood from the Forest of Dean. The trail is a wonderful representation of the Room on the Broom story and includes all of the characters from the popular storybook by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. The exhibition will particularly focus on the lives of women who were employed on a large scale to do the jobs previously occupied by men, including working as bus conductors and mechanics on London buses and as porters and guards on the Underground.
