Review of Drusillas Park in East Sussex

Drusillas Park Sussex

Drusillas Park

We had a wonderful visit to Drusillas over the Easter holidays. Drusillas is located close to Lewes in East Sussex and offers absolutely everything a family needs for a fun and memorable day out. My husband and I took our seven year old son and our five year old daughter and I think it’s fair to say they loved every minute. Upon arrival you notice how clean and well-kept the park is. There are plenty of friendly and knowledgeable staff on hand who really help you get the most out of your visit.

We all loved the zoo. It’s described as “no ordinary zoo!” and we can see why. The animals are of the smaller variety, lots of super sweet meerkats, lemurs, penguins and pandas. My favourite was the capybaras, I would definitely have liked to have taken one of those home! Unlike some other zoos we have been to you can get up close to all the animals at Drusillas and their enclosures are all beautifully maintained. We loved listening to the keepers talks and watching the animals being fed. Our son enjoyed reading all the interesting facts about the animals (pitched perfectly for his reading level) and was particularly fascinated to discover that a cockroach can survive for an hour without its head!!

We all thought that the Zoolympics challenges were great. To be able to time yourself standing on one leg like a flamingo, or see how fast you can run compared to a range of animals, or scale up a pole like a monkey provided the perfect entertainment. And to have a challenge where the kids are invited shout as loud as they possibly can, well it would be hard to design something more appealing!!

We all enjoyed visiting the area displaying the animal skins and talking to the staff about the illegal trade in animal products. This was educational for the children as well as entertaining.
After visiting all the animals we stopped for refreshments at the Oasis Café and had a really good lunch in very pleasant surroundings.

Rested and refuelled the kids were raring to go and absolutely adored the amazing adventure playground and the newly opened splash park. My husband and I were able to sit back and relax whilst they exhausted themselves, shrieking with delight for a couple of hours. It’s very well set out so that the littler ones have their own area to take things slightly more gently.

Our day wouldn’t have been complete without a visit to the new Hello Kitty Secret Garden. My daughter adores Hello Kitty and very much enjoyed the tea cup ride.

The children were fast asleep within 5 minutes of leaving, which is always a sure sign of a happy and successful family outing. I would highly recommend you visit Drusillas and I am sure we will be back again very soon.
